    Objective

A passenger information system on 60 screens, which offers a 16-minute programme to around 3,000 people in Vienna every day.

    Short description

The City Airport Train (CAT) links Vienna city centre to Schwechat Airport. It takes passengers to Vienna International Airport in 16 minutes. The programme is shown on state-of-the-art 17" TFT screens and lasts the duration of the entire journey. As passengers receive information in both German and English, and the programme is targeted appropriately (one programme for departing passengers and another for arriving passengers), and catches their attention.

    Context

Since we are dealing with rolling material and only rolling stock of the highest grade is used for the CAT, special emphasis was placed on the quality of the hardware. The players can be updated every 20 minutes at either terminus, Wien Mitte or Vienna Airport.

    Special features

Different programme depending on train direction
Passengers arriving in Vienna want to know about the local weather forecast, what to see, cultural attractions and transport connections.

The focus for departing passengers is on the journey & city information, international weather forecast, and information about Vienna International Airport.

    Public perception

The CAT is one of the most successful rail projects in recent years. The programme and technical equipment is classed as outstanding and state-of-the-art. The system availability is 99.98%.
